Communication in Brazilian Environmental Licensing Process*
- Evaluation of the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats involved in a project;
- Survey of questions and expectations;
- Elaboration of a stakeholders matrix;
- Preparation for public audiences;
- Attendance to conditions disclosed by the government related to communication and community relationship in order to obtain the licenses to operate;
- Community communication to present and discuss the EIA/RIMA*;
- Implementation of Social Communication Program (SCP) and Environmental Education Program (EEP). Both are part of environmental process licensing.
- Alignment of speech with involved stakeholders.
* Note: Developing the Environmental Impact Studies and Environmental Impacts Report (EIA/RIMA) and presenting the results in public audiences are part of the process of the Brazilian environmental legislation. Organizations that will impact in someway the environmental are obligated to pass those milestones in order to obtain the concession to operate. The required licenses are: LP (Previous license); LI (Implantation license); and LO (Operation License).
